| Church and School Volunteer Screening Process |
|
 |
 |
 |
| The children of St. Rita have one of the greatest environments to grow, learn, and formed in the faith of Jesus Christ. Along with our children is a great group of people that help lead and guide the passing on of the faith through catechesis, sports, and other programs. To maintain the highest level of safety not only for our children but for you as a volunteer, St. Rita Parish is continuing to adopt a screening process for all employees and volunteers who have access to our children supervised or unsupervised. The parish takes very seriously the safety and security of our youth in its parish programs, in the day school, and in its sports programs. |
 |
| The St. Rita screening process includes three areas: |
 |
- Compliance with Policies and Standards
- A Criminal Background Check must be performed
- To perform a Criminal Background Check you must make an appointment with your appropriate contact person within your program
- Fr. Jeff Cornelius – CYO, Pastoral Staff, Support Staff
- Karen Djukic – CYO, Day School Volunteers, St. Rita School Faculty & Staff
- Joan Bova – Youth Ministry, Scouts
- Joan Heacox – PSR Catechists & Aids (Grades pre K-8)
- The fingerprint machine is located in the main office of the Middle School Building
- Voluntary $24 fee (simply to cover costs incurred by the parish)
- VIRTUS Training
- Virtus is a Latin word that means valor or moral excellence. The VIRTUS programs assists our Church in being a safe haven for children and a messenger for preventing child sexual abuse within the Church and society in general. It is an on-going training component about the signs of child sexual abuse.
- VIRTUS begins with a three hour training course followed up by monthly articles to read distributed by e-mail or through the mail; there is no cost associated with VIRTUS.
- VIRTUS sessions are held all throughout the diocese. Click on www.virtus.org (click on ‘registration’ on the side then click ‘view a list of sessions’ then select ‘Cleveland Diocese’). You need only go to one session and all sessions are the same.
