| St. Rita was born in 1381 in Roccaporena, Italy. While she dreamed of becoming an Augustinian nun, Antonio and Amata Lotti arranged a marriage for their daughter to Paolo Mancini.
Rita married at age 18 and gave birth to twin boys. After her husband was killed and her sons died of natural causes, Rita joined the Augustinian Sisters at age 36. When she was 60 years old a wound, as if from a thorn, appeared on her forehead while she was meditating on the Crucifix.
Rita died on May 22, 1457 and is called the Saint of the Impossible because she accepted the difficulties and crosses in her life.
Pope Leo XIII named Rita a Saint on May 24, 1900. Her feast day is May 22. |
